Thailand 180-Day Tax Residency Counter

Add each stay in Thailand. We add up your days for every tax year and tell you how many days you have left this year before you reach 180.

How the 180-day rule works

Thailand uses a simple presence test. If you spend 180 days or more in Thailand during one calendar year, you are a Thai tax resident for that year. It does not matter whether the days are in one long stay or many short trips, and it does not matter which visa you hold.

Being a tax resident does not automatically mean you owe tax. It means Thailand can tax your Thai income and any foreign income you bring into the country. Whether you actually pay depends on your income, allowances and any tax treaty with your home country.

Frequently asked questions

When do I become a Thai tax resident?

When you are in Thailand for 180 days or more in total during one tax year. The tax year is the calendar year, 1 January to 31 December. The days do not have to be in a row.

Do the days I arrive and leave count?

The law does not spell this out. Most advisers count any part of a day in Thailand as a full day, so this calculator counts both your arrival and departure days. If you are within a few days of 180, get professional advice.

What changes if I am a tax resident?

Thailand can tax a resident on income from Thai sources and on foreign income brought into Thailand during a year they are resident. Under the rules in force since 1 January 2024, foreign income earned before 2024 is not taxed when brought in. A tax treaty with your home country may reduce or remove the tax, so check your own case with an adviser.

Does a visa type change the 180-day rule?

No. Tax residency depends only on the days you spend in Thailand, not on your visa. Some visas (such as LTR) come with their own tax benefits, but the day count is the same.

Is my travel data stored?

No. Everything is calculated in your browser and nothing is sent to a server.
