Frequently asked questions
How much money do I need to retire in Thailand?
For the Non-O and O-A retirement routes you need 800,000 THB in a Thai bank account, a monthly income of at least 65,000 THB, or a combination of income and savings that adds up to 800,000 THB a year.
What is the difference between the Non-O and the O-A?
A Non-O retirement visa gives you 90 days, and you then get a 1-year extension at a Thai immigration office each year. Health insurance is not required. The O-A is a 1-year visa you get from your home country before you arrive, and it requires health insurance of at least 3,000,000 THB per year.
What are the bank rules for the 800,000 THB deposit?
The money must be in a Thai bank account in your name for 2 months before your first extension and 3 months before later ones. After approval it must stay there for 3 months, and the balance must never drop below 400,000 THB for the rest of the year.
Who can get the LTR Wealthy Pensioner visa?
People aged 50 or older with a pension or passive income of at least USD 80,000 a year, or at least USD 40,000 plus USD 250,000 invested in Thailand. You also need health insurance of USD 50,000 or USD 100,000 in savings. It lasts up to 10 years and costs 50,000 THB.
Can I work on a retirement visa?
No. Retirement visas do not allow any work in Thailand, paid or unpaid. Income from abroad such as a pension, rent or investments is fine.
